  • Foothill College, founded 1957, is a two year community college located in Los Altos Hills, California and is part of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District.

The Program

Pharmacy Technician Program

  • The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited Pharmacy Technician Certificate curriculum is a nine month sequence of instruction, with entry in the Fall Quarter only.
  • Pharmacy technician program is designed to prepare students for jobs in hospitals, nursing homes, retail, home health care, and public and government agencies.
  • Students who complete the program in a satisfactory manner will be awarded a Career Certificate and are qualified to apply to the California State Board of Pharmacy for registration as a pharmacy technician.
  • Registration is a legal requirement for work as a pharmacy technician.
  • An optional two-year expanded Pharmacy Technician Program is also available which includes general education.
  • This two-year course sequence leads to an Associate in Science Degree in Pharmacy Technician, and offers the student the ability to transfer to a four-year college or to enter the job market with additional technical and theoretical background.

Program Outcomes

  • Program Learning Outcomes
    Students will demonstrate pharmaceutical knowledge, clinical skills and values necessary to practice as a competent pharmacy technician in both retail and hospital pharmacy settings.
  • Graduates will demonstrate competency with entry-level clinical skills in accordance with ASHP accreditation requirements.

Admission Requirements

Admission Requirements

  1. High school diploma or GED certificate;
  2. Completion of high school or college biology;
  3. Completion of high school or college algebra;
  4. Minimum GPA of 2.5;
  5. Drug/alcohol felony convictions preclude registration.

Accredited by American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP).

Academic Degree

  • AS = Associate in Science Degree. (90 units)
  • CA = Certificate of Achievement. (49 units)
