General Info

  • Located in Orange County, The North Orange County Community College District (NOCCCD) offers associate degrees and adult education certificates through two community college of Cypress College and Fullerton College and also with the School of Continuing Education.
  • Mission:

The Program

  • The North Orange County Community College District School of Continuing Education's (SCE) pharmacy technician certificate program prepares students for entry-level positions as pharmacy technicians in a hospital or community pharmacy.
  • The program is a noncredit program based on instructional hours that meet State Board of Pharmacy's registration requirements and is accredited by the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (ASHP).
  • Upon successful completion, the student is eligible to apply for registration as a pharmacy technician with the State of California.

Student Orientation

  • All new students beginning the Pharmacy Technician Certificate Program must attend a Student Orientation prior to registration.
  • Orientation will provide students with an overview of the program, job opportunities in the field, recommended course sequence, and the process for becoming registered with the State Board of Pharmacy.
  • A brief math assessment will be conducted for advising purposes.

The Curriculum

  • Pharmacy Technician classes are held on a trimester schedule, one night per week for 12 weeks, except for the Summer session when classes meet for 6 weeks.
  • The Pharmacy Technician program is a non-credit program that is based on instructional hours rather than on college units. A student may complete the entire program in 15 months.
  • To provide business and industry, individuals, and the community with quality professional services, training, and solutions to promote economic development within our region.
  • Classes are held in the evening and some Saturday mornings.
  • A Pharmacy Technician Career Certificate is awarded upon successful completion of all program requirements. There are 9 required courses plus 320 hours of Externship. Externship Rotations (320 Hours)
    1. Out-patient Externship (120 hours)
    2. In-patient Externship (200 hours)

Admission Requirements

  1. 18 years of age
  2. high school or GED equivalency or concurrent enrollment in high school
  3. enrollment in Introduction to Pharmacy course.

Accreditation

  • North Orange County Community College pharmacy technician program is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
