The Program

Pharmacy Technician Program

  • Program Description
    The Pharmacy Technician works as an assistant to a Registered Pharmacist, assisting or relieving the Pharmacist in routine technical and clerical duties and functioning in strict accordance with standard written procedures and guidelines under the supervision of the professional Pharmacist.
  • A.A.S. graduates have enhanced potential for upward progression in the career of Pharmacy, as the general education component gives the student a well-rounded foundation of knowledge.
  • Students, using their own laptop computers, learn how to access patient profiles, input drug orders, and print prescription labels.
  • Students learn how to fill prescriptions and aseptic technique for intravenous drug admixture in the College's state-of-the art teaching lab.

The Curriculum

Pharmacy Technology Curriculum

  • Curriculum Design:
    The didactive component of the Pharmacy Technology program is taught through lecture and laboratory demonstration and practice.
  • The lecture portion reinforces basic pharmacology, sterile technique, calculations, and law, etc.
  • The laboratory portion of instruction is used to demonstrate proper methods of technique and allow the student to practice and demonstrate an expectable level of technical skill and competency.
  • The clinical internship is completed at the end of the program after all of the didactive experiences are completed.

Admission Requirements

Admission Requirements

  • A National Criminal Background Study.
  • Complete a Minnesota Health and Human Services study.
  • Submit immunization dates to the college Health Screening Form.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.


Accredited by American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP).

Academic Degree

  • Pharmacy Technology Associate Degree - AAS (60 credits) : 2 year
  • Pharmacy Technology - Diploma (36 credits) : 1 year
