Montana pharmacy technician schools

Pharmacy Technician Registration Requirement

  1. Registered as Certified Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician-in-Training to be employed in a Montana Pharmacy.
  2. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  3. High School Degree or have attained equivalency certificate
  4. Good moral character
  5. Pharmacy Technician certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), or Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) or other board approved certifying entity.
  6. Pharmacy Technician-in-Training has 18 months from the time of registration to pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), ExCPT or other board approved certifying entity. Fax or send a copy of the certification to the Montana Board of Pharmacy so registration can be changed to Certified Pharmacy Technician. The permit to practice may not be renewed.
  7. Name and address in which the pharmacy technician-in-training is employed. A change in place of employment will require submission of updated information within ten working days of the change.
  8. No pharmacist whose license has been denied, revoked, suspended, or restricted for disciplinary purposes shall be eligible to be registered as a Pharmacy Technician.
Character References: Three character references that have knowledge of your ability to practice as a pharmacy technician or technician-in-training. One must be from a registered pharmacist. Questionnaires should be returned to the board office and not to the applicant. Technicians-in-Training are required to submit character reference forms before the end of the 18 month period.

Pharmacy Technician Training



  • A supervising pharmacist shall:
    1. provide initial training to a pharmacy technician that relates to the tasks the technician may perform pursuant to the supervising pharmacist's utilization plan; and
    2. prepare and maintain a written record of initial and inservice training for on-site inspection by the board. The record shall contain the following information:
      1. name and signature of the person receiving the training;
      2. dates of the training;
      3. general description of the topics covered; and
      4. name and signature of the person supervising the training.
    3. An initial training program must include on-the-job practical training and didactic education that is commensurate with the tasks and functions a pharmacy technician may perform. A supervising pharmacist must obtain the board's approval of an initial training program prior to undertaking the training of a pharmacy technician pursuant to the program.
    4. Verification of completion of training, by test or otherwise, shall be recorded by the supervising pharmacist, and shall be available for inspection with the training record.
