General Info

  • The Community College of Allegheny County opened in September 1966 CCAC trains students for employment, transfer to four-year institutions, or both.

The Program

Associate in Science, Tech Prep Option
  1. This program prepares you to assist a Registered Pharmacist. Graduates work in retail or hospital pharmacies, where they compound and distribute medications, develop intravenous admixtures and provide other pharmaceutical supplies.
  2. Admission is limited by the availability of clinical sites. Students must make separate application to the program.
  3. Students must maintain a QPA of 2.00 or better in the program courses to remain in the program.
Certificate (Tech Prep Option)
  1. A certificate program to prepare the graduate to enter the work force as a Pharmacy Technician. Employment can be in acute care, ambulatory care, or long term care settings, research facilities, mail-order pharmacies, and home infusion companies. Pharmacy Technicians assist Registered Pharmacists in the compounding and distribution of medications, prepare IV Admixtures, and provide other pharmaceutical care services. Admission to the program is limited by the availability of clinical sites. A separate application for program admission is required. A student must maintain a 2.0 college-level cumulative GPA to remain in the program.

Health Career programs at CCAC are not open enrollment programs. This means that you cannot enroll in Health Career courses without having been formally accepted into a program. This application is separate from your general Community College of Allegheny County application.
